Production functions of NCAA men and women water polo matches

Previous research has adapted the use of economic production functions to estimate scoring teams in professional sports. Most these studies have focused on male team sports, most notably, US baseball, basketball, and association football. This study adds literature by utilizing a new distinctive data set shooting statistics from 88 men’s 38 women’s NCAA water polo contests for United States’ collegiate games identify important variables predicting margin victory such competitions. The results show that shots goal, average shot distance, number counterattacks, quick shots, efficiency power play conversions are all significant predictors goal differentials while center matches. season win percentage, rebounds, exclusions, missed were not models. These conclusions confirm extend previous discriminatory elite international contests.
